Cinematic style photography is becoming increasingly popular, especially for couples photoshoots.

The idea is simple: instead of asking you to pose for the camera, you're guided by the photographer as if you were filming a scene from a movie. The goal isn't to "take a photo," but to capture a real moment between the two of you: a glance, a laugh, a tender gesture. That spontaneity is exactly what gives the images their strong storytelling and true cinematic feel.



How I Guide You During the Session


In practice, I give you "scene" directions to act out, rather than stiff, static poses. A few examples of what I often suggest:

  • "You walk hand in hand, one behind the other, and the person behind turns to look at me over your shoulder."
  • "You run toward him and jump into his arms, he spins you around holding you by the waist, then sets you down and kisses your forehead."
  • "You're dancing together, then you spin her around by the hand."


These directions are really just a starting point: once the scene begins, your natural chemistry takes over, and that's exactly the moment I capture. Spontaneity plays a big role here too: once a few scenes have been suggested, couples usually find their own inspiration and start creating little moments of their own that fit perfectly with this cinematic mood.


It's also worth thinking about what you wear for this type of session, to further enhance the cinematic mood. Flowing fabrics, beautiful textures, and neutral colors generally photograph best. Why It Works Even If You've Never Posed Before


This is probably the biggest advantage of this approach: you don't need any experience to feel comfortable in front of my camera. Since you're not "posing" in the traditional sense, there's nothing to get right or wrong, you simply follow a small scene, and the rest happens naturally. It's a method that puts people at ease, especially those who usually feel awkward in front of a camera.



What If You Still Want Some Posed Shots?


No problem at all! If you'd like a few more classic, camera-facing shots, I'm always happy to include them. The cinematic approach doesn't rule out traditional photography, the two blend together really well within the same session.

The result is a set of images that tell a story, rather than freezing a single instant. That's what sets a "posed" photo apart from one that feels genuinely candid, full of real emotion and real interaction between the two of you, exactly what makes a couples photoshoot feel truly successful!

Where Does This Type of Session Take Place?


I shoot most of my cinematic couples sessions outdoors, in Paris. It's also entirely possible to shoot elsewhere in France, particularly out in the countryside or in the mountains, in the Alps for example. I'd also love to create something abroad if a project speaks to you: Norway, Italy, or Switzerland, to name a few! I have plenty of ideas from my many travels as a landscape photographer, so don't hesitate to bring it up when we talk.


I also really enjoy shooting these sessions indoors, in your own cozy space, or in a beautiful hotel room booked for the occasion. This creates an intimate setting that's especially well suited to cinematic photography, and people also tend to feel even more at ease in an environment that's their own.
